DARIEN — A New Haven driver was killed and his passenger was injured in a one-car crash on Interstate 95 early Monday, Connecticut State Police said.

Juan Galo Lliquin-Guisnan, 40, died at the scene of the crash in the shoulder of I-95 northbound near Exit 12, state police said.

His passenger, a 21-year-old who also is from New Haven, was taken to Norwalk Hospital for minor injuries.

According to the Connecticut State Police, troopers received a report of a crashed car about 5 a.m. When they arrived, they discovered a 2011 Chevrolet Cruze under the guardrail on the right side of the highway.

A preliminary investigation shows the car was headed north in the right lane when it veered off the highway and hit the end of the guardrail. Troopers said they don’t know why the driver lost control.
