A Bridgeport woman is facing an embezzlement charge after taking over $100,000 from the Darien Rowayton Bank.

Connie Hernandez, 53, of Bridgeport, was charged with first-degree larceny Oct. 26 after officers met with bank employees who had noticed missing funds. Hernandez worked as the mortgage loan processor and was suspected of transferring money into her account after employees noticed discrepancies in paperwork and deposit slips, police said.

Hernandez began depositing funds into her account in 2009 under the name of an appraiser before continuing to make deposits under her own name, police said. Over a two year period, Hernandez deposited $139,143.96 into her account, police said.

She was held in lieu of $10,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court Nov. 4.
