Message from the Darien Police, Sunday:
All Darien Public Schools have been closed for Monday, March 15, 2010.
The Town of Darien has sustained substantial storm damage over the past 24 hours. There are hundreds of locations in which downed trees have severed power lines and caused property damage. Currently, Connecticut Light and Power has resumed their attempts to restore power to the area beginning with high priority locations first. Power outages will be lengthy and residents are urged to take the necessary precautions.
Currently our communications center is inundated with reports of life threatening emergency calls. Please do not call the police department to inquire about outages. We are very aware that there are trees and power lines down on almost every street in Darien. Dozens of main roadways are completely impassable and non-essential travel is not recommended. All downed power lines are to be considered energized.
Do not leave the safety of your residence unless it is an emergency and do not drive over downed power lines.
