Message from the Darien Police, Monday:
The Darien Police Department has assigned additional officers to patrol the town following the weekend storm that downed hundreds of trees. According to CL&P, approximately 3,400 customers are currently without power. Many primary and secondary roads remain impassible or are hazardous due to the presence of utility wires. This will likely be a multi-day response effort; your patience is appreciated as we address this crisis. The police department, fire departments, and EMS are fully operational and can reach residents in the event of an emergency. The Darien Police Department is coordinating with CL&P and the Darien Department of Public Works to reopen primary thoroughfares that will allow for better emergency access to secondary roads. Currently, resources are being focused to reopen Brookside Road, Hollow Tree Ridge Road, Raymond Street, Rings End Road, Long Neck Point Road, Noroton Avenue, and Middlesex Road. The State of Connecticut is addressing state route closures. Residents are advised to stay away from downed wires; DO NOT drive over or under utility wires as they may be energized.
