Man charged with providing alcohol to minors

Christopher Allam, 21, of 39 Phillips Lane, Darien, was arrested July 15 on a charge of providing alcohol to minors after police broke up an underage drinking party, according to the incident report.

Police responded to the Phillips Lane home just before 11 p.m. on an anonymous tip that there were underage youths at a party with alcohol, the report stated.

When officers arrived, they saw several people who appeared to be underage and drinking out of red cups; one individual holding a can of beer, police said.

Police also saw three males near the garage with bottles of beer, but they ran when they saw the officers, according to the report.

At the front door, officers heard yelling just before all the lights were turned out, police said. Allam met the officers on the front porch, according to the report.

He told police that he was 21 and some of his friends, all of whom were 21, were drinking, according to police. He told police he did not want them to enter the house, police said.

Allam was told, according to the report, that an officer was required to check the welfare of any underage party-goers, police said. Another person stepped onto the porch and attempted to block the officer's entry into the home, which failed, police said.

Once in the kitchen area, the officer saw numerous people holding red cups that appeared to be filled with beer, police said. While checking the rest of the home, an officer discovered several youths hiding in the basement next to a beer pong table, police said.

Police said Allam became agitated he was told them about the people in the basement and started to yell and said he didn't know there were people downstairs.

A number of youths at the party were 18 years old and there was one 17-year-old, police said.

Allam posted $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 25.
