The New Canaan and Darien Moms of Military group had the honor of assisting in the hanging of the Veterans Banners in downtown New Canaan this past week, the group said.

The group shows many thanks to Amy Plum, Joelle Graham, Kimberly O’Hara, Suzanne Wilson and Gaelynn McGavick who helped continue the tradition originally started as an Eagle Scout project by Jack Goetz and Peter Langenus (former Commander of VFW Post 653 in New Canaan). They received lots of positive comments from residents as they were hanging them.

The Mom's of Military group has volunteered to continue the tradition of hanging the banners with the help and support of the VFW, Exchange Club of New Canaan, the Department of Public Works and local leaders.

“Please know that your hard work is appreciated. Veterans are not those to seek public attention, but it means a lot to us all with the tradition you’ve kept alive in town,” Commander of VFW Post 653 in New Canaan Russell A. Kimes III said in an e-mail.

The banners can be seen along Elm Street and South Avenue in the downtown area of the town.
