Nielsen's Florist will be hosting its third annual "Home for the Holidays" event in its conservatory, 1405 Post Road, Darien, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 14.

The event will benefit Darien EMS-Post 53. All ticket proceeds and 10 percent of the evening's sales will benefit Post 53.

"Home for the Holidays" features local designers who will create their own interpretation of a holiday tablescape. Designers this year include Greg Pollack, Elissa Grayer, Stephanie Sigg of Country Designs and Nielsen's own designers.

Sandy Nielsen, general manager of Nielsen's, said, "We're really looking forward to supporting a local organization that is near and dear to everyone's hearts. Darien EMS-Post 53 not only makes a critical difference to members of our community every day, but also empowers young people as they enter into adulthood with skills that last a lifetime."

While soaking up the holiday atmosphere, guests can take advantage of the decorating ideas while enjoying wine and hors d'oeuvres provided by Michael Joseph's. Previous events have attracted more than 150 guests, raising close to $5,000.

Nancy Herling, assistant director of Darien EMS-Post 53, is hoping the event will raise awareness and needed funds for the organization.

"As the community gears up for a season of thanks and giving," she said, "this event is a terrific opportunity to support an organization that is here for them all year long. And at the same time, get some creative ideas for the holidays. There will be some great door prizes and it's a fun way to start your holiday shopping."

Founded in 1970, Post 53 provides emergency medical services to the Darien community, using Darien High School students and adult volunteers. The members of Post 53 are committed to achieving and maintaining the highest level of training and skill in providing pre-hospital care and transport to the citizens of Darien. Post 53 is recognized locally and nationally as one of the finest emergency ambulance services in the United States.
