Geary Gallery presents an evening with an artist and exhibit of plein-air paintings
The Geary Gallery hosts "An Evening with Judith Carbine," an opening reception that kicks off a monthlong solo exhibit of the artist's plein air oil paintings that celebrate the majesty of New England.
This is the first chance to meet with Carbine in person at the gallery in three years, and her exhibit will run through Saturday, April 28. Admission is free.
For more than 20 years, Carbine has captured the grandeur of the New England landscape. The Vermont native will return to Geary Gallery to unveil a new series of engaging plein air oil paintings that celebrate the majesty of nature. The month-long solo exhibit will showcase many of her trademark subjects including Long Island sand dunes, Vermont snow scenes, inspirational gardens of Connecticut and dramatic seascapes of the Eastern Seaboard.
"Painting outdoors is an exciting and refreshing visual adventure. The challenge is to capture the splendor of nature with every painting," said Carbine. "New England has some of the most magnificent landscapes in the country, and it's an endless source of inspiration for me."
A self taught artist, Carbine was greatly influenced by French and American impressionism, and her artwork has been profiled in American Artist Magazine, and has been published in the books The Zen of Creative Painting and Strengthen Your Paintings with Dynamic Composition.
In addition to the Geary Gallery, Carbine frequently exhibits in her native Vermont and numerous northern New England and New York galleries. She has received Best in Show awards from both the Chester (Vt.) Art Guild and the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.
"Judith is one of the area's most celebrated artists and many of her previous exhibits have completely sold out," Tom Geary, owner of the Darien gallery, said. "She continues to receive widespread acclaim for beautifully blended colors and a notable talent for capturing the nuances of New England. This exhibit is a collection of Judith's finest works to date, and we're happy to be bringing it to our Fairfield County community."
Carbine's exhibit will open with an evening reception Saturday, March 31, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery, 576 Boston Post Road in Darien. The public is invited to meet the artist. Artwork will be available.
