The Town of Darien Firefighters' Foundation held it's annual wine tasting event Nov. 11 at Noroton Heights Fire Department. More than 200 people attended, including the newly elected First Selectwoman Jayme Stevenson and Dave Campbell and Jerry Nielsen.

The public was invited to sample wine provided by Nicholas Roberts for the forth year in a row who donated 15 percent of the evening's sales to the foundation. Cafe D'Azur and Ten Twenty Post restaurants donated platters of food and Nielsen's Florist donated several bouquets of flowers. The event raised almost $8,000.

The foundation was founded in 2007 as a civilian run organization committed to raising funds on behalf of Darien's three 100 percent volunteer fire companies; Darien Fire Department, Noroton Fire Department and Noroton Heights Fire Department. These departments respond to more than 1,000 calls per year. The foundation raises money through private donations and other fundraising events including sponsoring Darien's 4th of July Fireworks, Fun with Firefighters, a child-friendly event held in May, and Lobster for Ladders, a biennial benefit held in early September.

Funds raised may be used to purchase equipment, pay for training or purchase or improve property that is solely used in a first responder capacity. For more information on helping the foundation, contact Stephen Roney at 203-655-6310 or visit
