The Darien Nature Center is gearing up for its annual Down on the Farm, which brings old-fashioned family fun to town.

The event will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24, on the nature center's grounds. The rain date is May 25.

Whole Foods Market, of Darien, will serve sandwiches, chips, drinks and fresh fruit. Its "Green Truck" will be an added attraction, as well as its Kelvin's Natural Slush truck.

Among the activities will be:

A sing-along children's concert with The Bossy Frog Band

Free pony rides, barnyard animals and a petting zoo, which will feature sheep, goats, rabbits, donkeys and ducks. Lots of farm equipment, donated by Fox Hill Builders, will also be on hand for climbing and exploring

Almstead Tree and Shrub Care will oversee "travel to the treetops," which will hoist children up high above Cherry Lawn Park. Children will get a bird's eye view of the park from the branches of the trees next to the Darien Nature Center

Vibe Fitness owner Aidan Gaffney will get children active and busy with outdoor exercises on the lawn

Super Fun Inflatables will be on hand with a bounce house called "Gorilligan's Island"

Trail maps and guided tours of the Darien Nature Center trails will assist children with exploration of nature.

The drawing of the winners of the Nature Center raffle, featuring an array of prizes, will take place at 1 p.m.

Children with special needs and their families are invited to a special preview of the barnyard at 9:30 a.m.

Tickets are $10 for children and $5 for adults. For information, call 203-655-7459.
