Maryjane Pacifico, a Darien resident, is conducting a "short stories course at the Lifetime Learners Institute.

Pacifico is a retired high school English teacher and current adjunct college professor, as well as a facilitator at Lifetime Learners Institute at Norwalk Community College.

Starting April 7, she will conduct a once-a-week two-hour course forfive weeks, reviewing some of the representative works of many of the finest short story writers. Group discussions will be based on the assigned readings for each class. She agrees with Stephen Vincent Benet that a short story is something that can be read in an hour and remembered for a lifetime.

Lifetime Learners is a non-profit educational organization at Norwalk Community College for people older than 50. The spring semester offers 48 other daytime classes, many beginning the week of March 20. These two-hour non-credit courses, either at 1 and/or 3 p.m. and on Fridays at 10 a.m., are on a variety of other interesting subjects, including history, music, current events, movies, photography, languages, religions, art books, opera, travel, memoirs, etc.

Member course fees are $20 for each registered course, and memberships are available for $30, cash or checks only. Register early for best selection.
