The students participating in the Darien Summer Jazz Workshop performed for the residents of the Atria Senior Living facility on Thursday, July 12. The students, in the fifth through 12th grades, engaged in a week-long study of creative jazz and improvisation techniques and then shared their music with several residents at the Atria. Richard Sadlon, the director of the summer jazz program, remarked, “Our students get an authentic jazz performance experience by performing in public and the residents at the Atria provide an appreciative, supportive audience for our students. Everyone benefits.”

The student musicians performing in this summer’s workshop are: Cello, John McGovern; clarinets: Laszlo Balazs and Olivia Shifrin; saxes: Khrystos Yika-Nacarino, Frank Hu, Jeremy Oliveira and Nolan Lovegrove; trumpets: Veronica Mejias, Josiah Jung, Lucas Llovera and Henry Shifrin and keyboards: Theodore Bang.
