Darien resident threatens to flee the country after DWI arrest
A Darien resident told officers he would flee to Canada or Mexico to avoid jail time after he was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Douglas Atha, 29, of 28 Miller Road was arrested Feb. 26 for driving while intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, police said.
Atha was driving his 2003 Jeep Wrangler west on the Post Road at 1:42 a.m. when he attempted to evade a DWI check point at the intersection of Post Road and Ledge Road, police said.
