DARIEN — Another Darien resident has fallen victim to a popular kidnapping phone scam.

On Feb. 8 around 6:45 p.m., a 61-year-old man reported to police he’d wired $780 to a caller who told him his daughter had been involved in a car accident with him. The caller told the Darien man he’d already assaulted the victim’s daughter and the victim would not see his daughter again unless he wired the caller money.

Police said the Darien man was afraid for his daughter’s safety and unable to contact her to confirm she was alright. The man then wired the funds. After ending the call, the man reached his daughter and found out she was fine and the call was a scam.

Police are continuing to investigate this incident and warn resient to be wary of similar scams.
