Darien man charged after fight over driving for Uber
Update: According to the state's attorney, the case against William Stevens was dismissed.
DARIEN — A 19-year-old Darien man was charged after a fight over whether or not he could drive for Uber turned violent.
Officers responded to a Juniper Road home around 12 a.m. Aug. 30 following an argument between two residents there.
William Stevens had been arguing with the victim about using her car to drive for the ride-sharing service Uber. The victim forbade Stevens from using her car to drive for Uber and Stevens pushed her in an attempt to get the keys to the car. Steven allegedly also destroyed the key fob to the car. When the victim confronted Stevens, he picked up a golf club and ehld it in “menacing manner,” according to police.
The victim threatened to call the police and Stevens pushed her a second time.
Police arrived at the home and charged Stevens with disorderly conduct. He appeared in court on Aug. 31.
