After splitting its first meet of the season, the Darien gymnastics team bounced back last Saturday and defeated Weston at the Darien YMCA, 131.05-102.45 and raised its record to 2-1.

"We came back strong after a loss to New Milford," Blue Wave Coach Salina Tavella said. "There's a lot of depth on Darien and we're on the right track."

Darien nearly duplicated its 131.15 it garnered against New Milford and did it without its top performer, senior co-captain Morgan Whitehead, who was absent because she competed in a YMCA meet.

The Lady Blue Wave scored a 33.6 on vault, a 33.3 on floor exercise, a 32.3 on the balance beam and a 31.8 on the uneven bars. Junior Katie Southworth led the way and was the all-around champion with 33.55 points. Southworth did her best on vault (8.65) and floor (8.4) and was solid on bars (8.3) and beam (8.15).

Next for Darien were junior Katherine Mosher (33.4), senior co-captain Elsa Imbimbo (32.75) and freshman Jessica Thornbury (31.25). Mosher was especially strong on floor (8.6) and was the overall top performer on bars (8.5). She had an 8.4 on vault and a 7.9 on beam.

Imbimbo continues to improve and was stellar on floor (8.6), vault (8.55) and beam (8.3) and held her own on bars (7.3). Thornbury had an 8.0 on vault, a 7.95 on beam, a 7.7 on floor and a 7.6 on bars. Sophomores Marya Von Schmidt and Caroline Congdon each competed on three events. Von Schmidt scored a 7.95 on vault, a 6.7 on bars and a 6.0 on beam. Congdon's best event was beam (7.5) and held her own on vault (7.4) and bars (6.3).
