Darien girls cross country team claims 13th place at New England Championship in Maine
Wynne, the FCIAC, Class LL and State Open, finished in a time of 16:12.86, beating out runner-up Trevor Cawley of Cumberland, R.I., who finished in 16:14.21.
Other regional runners who finished among the top 25 to earn all-New England honors were Jake Feinstein of Newtown (4th, 16:26.14), Christian Alvarado of Fairfield Prep (9th, 16:37.53), Trevor Hopper of Ridgefield (11th, 16:39.19), Logan Fulton of Barlow (16th, 16:49.28), Mitchell Russo of Newtown (20th, 16:53.45) and Mickey Kozak of Danbury (22nd, 16:54.41).
Bishop Hendricken of Rhode Island won the team title with 85 points. New Milford was the top regional finisher among the 30 teams who qualified with 263 points for fifth place followed by Newtown (6th, 266), Staples (9th, 317) and Amity (11th, 378).
In the girls competition, Staples freshman Hannah Debalsi was the top regional finisher in 11th place with a time of 19:32.27. Other regional finishers among the top 25 were Laura Hergenrother of Ridgefield (18th, 19:47.4), Anne Johnston of Darien (19th, 19:48.53) and New Fairfield's Gabrielle Richichi (20th, 19:50.88).
Barrington of Rhode Island won the team title with 75 points. Ridgefield was the top regional finisher among the 30 teams who qualified with 218 points for fifth place followed by Wilton (12th, 386)and Darien (13th, 399).
