Darien boys track team takes seventh place at New Haven Invitational
Darien placed seventh with 23 points at the New Haven Varsity Invitational on Friday, as Bloomfield won the meet with 40 points.
One of the highlights for Darien was the victorious distance medley relay. The team of Arthur Cassidy, James Farrington, Jack Sparkman and Brian Davey placed first in 11:24.15. Cassidy and Farrington teamed with Carter Ashcraft in the 4 x 800 to place fifth in 8:50.87. Davey was also sixth in the 800 in 2:05.13.
On Saturday, Nick Lombardo was up to his old tricks. Lombardo broke his own school record in the high jump with a mark of 6-7. This was one inch higher than the record he set in 2012. The mark is also believed to be a Staples Fieldhouse record.
In addition, the mark qualified Lombardo for the New Balance Indoor National Championships in March.
Also competing well Saturday was Cameron Smith, who placed third in high jump at 5-10 and second in long jump with a mark of 19-0.75. Smith was also third in the 300 in 39.37.
