Darien Road race takes off this weekend
Registration remains open for Sunday’s 36th annual Darien Road Race at Pear Tree Point Beach.
The run, scheduled for 1 p.m., starts at the beach and includes routes along waterfront scenic roads, as well as a 10-kilometer run and a 1.5-mile loop.
The race will feature “The Finish Line” tent with music, games, food trucks, a dunk tank, and sponsor booths.
Over the years, the race has raised more than $950,000 to benefit non-profits that support critical needs in Stamford, Norwalk, and Darien.
“We are thrilled to be hosting the 36th running of this beloved Darien race,” said Carrie Bernier, executive director of the Community Fund of Darien. “The Darien Road Race brings together families, athletes, and adults young and old to celebrate the spirit of our community and support a great cause.”
The Community Fund annually gives grant awards to non-profit programs in three categories: youth success, self-sufficiency and basic needs.
The lead sponsors for this year’s race are UBS, Eagle Point Credit Management, Tooher-Ferraris Insurance Group, and Vineyard Vines.
Runners can pre-register and pick up their T-shirts and numbers on Friday (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and Saturday (9-noon) at The Community Fund of Darien office, 701 Post Road.
Race day check-in and registration is at Pear Tree Point Beach from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cash, credit cards and checks are accepted.
Parking at Pear Tree Beach is limited. Access to the beach and road will be closed at 12:30 p.m. or when the lot is full. Runners are advised to seek off-site parking or car pool.
Participants can register at darienroadrace.org. Entry fees are $40 in advance for adults and $45 on race day, and $15 for those 12 and under.
