Darien Arts Center announces new upcoming class offerings
DARIEN — Registration is open for winter and spring classes for all ages in dance, visual arts, martial arts and music at the Darien Arts Center.
The venue in the town at 2 Renshaw Road, behind the Darien Town Hall has the classes available in-person, and on Zoom for the winter, and spring seasons, all following Connecticut COVID-19 protocol.

The DAC dance program offers students from the age of 3 through adults, the opportunity to train in one of the finest dance spaces in Fairfield County. Winter/spring classes run from Jan. 25 through June 3, tuition is $400. Adult drop-in and class card options are available. Dance classes are for all levels, ages 3 and up and include: ballet, jazz, hip hop, teen contemporary, modern, broadway dance and pointe.
These classes are designed to hone fine motor skills and improve focus and self-discipline, while learning self-defense and having fun.
Open martial arts,
Ages 8 and up, Monday, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., from Jan. 25 to June 6, cost is $400.
Teen/adult martial arts
Thursday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Jan. 21 to June 3, cost is $400. Adult drop-in and class card options are available for these classes.
The DAC music program includes private lessons for both adults and children in cello, composition, drum set, guitar, flute, viola, violin, voice, piano, and music theory as well as group classes.
Advanced Young Composers, the fifth grade through the 12th grade, Saturday, 1:15 to 2:45 p.m., Jan. 23 to March 27, cost is $256.
Student composers with more experience work in a workshop setting, writing and critiquing each other’s music.
Beginning Young Composers, the third grade through the fifth grade, Saturday, 3 to 4 p.m., Jan. 23 to March 27, $210. Beginning composition students will learn the basics of writing music.
Classes and workshops for children and adults include painting, drawing, photography and fine crafts. Students practice in the spacious DAC Visual Arts Studio.
Tuesday 4:10 to 5:10 p.m. March 2 to April 27, cost is $176. Students will design their own characters and learn to use them in a one-panel cartoon and three-panel comic strip.
A new class, the first grade through the fourth grade, Wednesday 3:45 to 4:45 p.m, March 3 to April 28, cost is $176. The budding artist will learn the basic techniques of all forms of two-dimensional art, through a wide variety of materials such as watercolor, pastels and ink.
Drawing and Painting:
For the fifth grade through the ninth grade, Wednesday 5 to 6:30 p.m., March 3 to April 28, cost is $265. Beginners and more advanced students build upon what they have learned in school and continue to explore traditional and experimental materials.
Digital Photography: The Great Outdoors:
A new class, the fifth grade through the ninth grade, Friday 4:40 to 5:40 p.m., March 5 to April 30, cost is $176 Students learn to use their digital device to capture exciting photos.
New! Drawing Explorations with Nancy (Zoom class):
A new class, Adults, Thursday, 10 to 11 a.m., Jan. 14 to March 25, cost is $145. Students broaden their horizons both in technical skill and material knowledge.
Landscape Drawing Workshop (Zoom class):
A new class, Adults, Tuesday, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Feb. 2 to March 9, cost is $108. Students are led through the basic technique drawing and sketching and will learn perspective as they capture the beauty of their surrounding landscape.
Art Nouveau (Zoom class):
A new class, Adults, Tuesday 6:30 to 8 p.m., Feb. 2 to March 23, cost is $215. This course focuses mainly on the ornamental styles of Alphonse Mucha, Georges Riom and Victor Pierre Horta, both are artists.
Drawing with Colored Pencils with Nancy (Zoom class):
A new class, Adults, Thursday, 2 to 3 p.m., Feb. 4 to March 11, cost is $108, Working from a variety of genres from still life to landscape and seascape, students will enjoy gaining technique and understanding of this medium. Suited for all levels.
A new class, Adults, Monday, 7 to 9 p.m., March. 15 to April 19, $295, An introduction to ornamental handwriting done with an oblique pointed pen and a flexible steel nib.
