The 55th annual Darien Art Show & Sale will be featuring some new additions to this year's event, including the Darien Arts Center's annual juried show featuring a private collectors' night and a Best in Show solo exhibit.

The art show and sale will kick off with an awards reception at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 31. The show will be open for public viewing in the DAC Weatherstone Studio from June 1 to 8. The DAC will accept art for the show on Sunday, May 26, from noon to 4 p.m. and Tuesday, May 28, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The new private collectors' night "will encourage more art sales, which in turn should entice more artists who are serious about selling to enter the show. It's a win-win for everyone," said Meg Tweedy, co-chairman of the event.

"We are really stepping it up this year," said co-chairman Britt Bair. "While the quality of the entries has always produced fabulous winners, we plan to raise the bar by reaching out more to accomplished artists locally and from out of town. We already have many commitments from professionals in their fields, award winners and artists with dedicated followings."

The 2012 Best in Show winner, Sergey Stepanenko, will host a solo show in Town Hall that will overlap with the DAC show.

"This should bring more traffic into our show," said Bair. "And it is a coup for the Best in Show to get a solo show the following year."

In addition to cash prizes donated by local merchants, winners are given a show in the Darien Library and honorable mention winners' works hang in the Town Hall afterward.
