DARIEN — As of Dec. 12, construction on Shake Shack had ceased, but residents must wait a bit longer to get a burger.

Per Shake Shack Marketing and Communications Manager Adam Shapiro, an opening date has not been settled on. Shapiro did confirm operations would start in early 2017. Staff training has not yet begun, Shapiro added.

The restaurant will offer hamburgers, hotdogs fries and milkshakes. It grew in 2004 out of a Madison Square Park food cart and now has franchises all over the U.S. and internationally. Darien’s iteration will be at 1340 Post Road, the former site of Chuck’s Steak House.

Despite a series of snags during the summer in the Planning and Zoning stages over the size of signage that delayed the project, developer David Genovese, principal of Baywater Properties, predicted correctly during construction that the upscale “fast casual” joint would be complete by mid-December. A final inspection of the building is scheduled for later this week, according to Genovese.

Enthusiasm for the project remains high in the community, according to Genovese. A Dec. 5 post on his personal Facebook page announcing the imminent completion of construction received more than 500 likes and more than 80 comments.
