Children's Aid of Darien, Inc. received the 2011 Family Strengthening Award from Family & Children's Agency at the agency's recent annual meeting.

The award recognizes and celebrates individuals or organizations whose contributions have dramatically impacted the agency's ability to strengthen and stabilize families and offer help in all phases of life.

Founded in 1940, Children's Aid of Darien has supported a variety of agency programs, with a particular emphasis on the issues of at-risk children and youth, since 1957. In addition to volunteering in programs and hosting events, Children's Aid members have been involved in a family reading program for the after-school program and in providing Thanksgiving dinner for agency clients experiencing homelessness who are participating in programs at the Community Connections location.

Children's Aid also has a long history of fundraising for Family & Children's Agency through sponsoring tag sales, bridge luncheons, benefit events, art shows, wine tastings, theater and trunk shows. In the last 10 years, these activities have raised more than $500,000 to support programs at the agency.

Rob Cashel, president and CEO of Family & Children's Agency, expressed appreciation for the organization's contribution.

"Children's Aid has been a wonderful partner in our work to strengthen families and positively impact the lives of children throughout Fairfield County," he said. "We are very grateful for their support."
