Barrett Bookstore welcomes parents and students to attend a college admissions seminar focused on the new SAT at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

The presenter will be Trevor King, a graduate of Dartmouth College, where he majored in psychology and assisted the chair of the Education Department as an editor of a series of anthologies featuring college students’ autobiographical essays, which was published by Cornell University Press. As a college consultant, King has drawn on this experience to advise students on their college admission essays, and his students have been accepted to schools such as Stanford, Harvard, Cambridge, Princeton, Columbia, University of Chicago, and Cornell. In his role as a SAT and ACT tutor, he has a record of raising students’ scores an average of more than 300 points on the SAT and seven points on the ACT.

King will will also preview the new SAT, which will be administered starting in January. The college essay is part of the process, and he will offer tips on choosing a subject and writing a well-constructed essay that will stand out. Other topics will include extracurricular activities, course selection, Common App guidelines, Early Admission programs. The recommended college prep books will be available.
