DARIEN — An part of their ongoing investigation into thefts from unlocked cars, police located two bicycles possibly left behind by the thieves.

A backpack containing a $1,300 MacBook computer was stolen from a 2004 Mercedes Benz on Deepwood Road. The owner told police he parked his vehicle in the driveway on April 29 and left it unlocked.

The 61-year-old heard his dogs barking and looked outside to see the light inside the car was on at 11:15 p.m. At that point, the Darien man discovered the missing laptop. He did not, however, inform the police until the following day around noon.

Only a few streets away, 35-year-old man alerted police that his unlocked vehicle had also been rifled through. Nothing was taken from the 2015 Jeep Cherokee parked on Chestnut street but the owner did locate two bicycles behind his house, along with a small flashlight.

While searching the neighborhood, another resident told police he saw the bicycles on the ground around 3:30 a.m. on April 30 when he returned home. He also said he saw a “small light” coming from the side of the road as he drove by.

Police secured the bicycles and flashlight and brought them to headquarters for further investigation.
