The Rev. Joanne Swenson leads "Ruth: How Love Overcomes Loss," the new Bible study at Talmadge Hill Community Church, with the Rev. Mitch Zeman, minister and study leader.

"The Book of Ruth tells one of the most memorable stories of the Bible, and we aim is to explore how discouraged faith can recover through transformative human relationships, and how to find one's way into a new community," Zeman said.

These themes will be discussed in the series, which meets Monday from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. or Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church, 870 Hollow Tree Ridge Road, Darien.

Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite Bible translation.

The gatherings are creative, collaborative and participative rather than academic, with attention to the Bible's literary, historical and inspirational dimensions.

Zeman has a master's degree from Yale and is in private practice as a counselor.
