33 Staples students 'commended' by National Merit program

Thirty-three seniors at Staples High School have been recognized as "Commended Students" in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.

A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corp. will be presented by Staples Principal John Dodig to the following students:

Noelle Adler, Joseph Badion, Alexandra Benjamin, Kelsey Bobrow, Lina Boehmer, Emma Boland, Jonah Boughton, Alexander Davis and Rachel Doran.

Also, Alexander Elias, Ryan Fanning, Kari Flicker, Reni Forer, Julian Garrison, Alyssa Gehb, Trevor Harker, Griffin Haymes, Frederick Hertan, Kana Higuchi, Griffin Lach, Daniel Landy, Monique Medina and Conrad Mera.

And Jacob Nadel, Cadence Neenan, Madeline Schemel, Nikhita Shankar, Jessica Shaw, Camille Shuken, Rachel Treisman, Sage Vouse, Olivia Wiener and Terrie Yang.

In a statement announcing the list of commended students, Dodig said, the students are known for their achivements as singers, athletes, journalists, computer whizzes, piano players, artists and actors. They take Advanced Placement and honors classes, and are active in community service clubs.

Last month, 13 Staples students were named semifinalists for National Merit scholarships.

About 34,000 students throughout the nation are being recognized for their "commended" status in the annual academic competition.
