CHESHIRE — A 31-year Mountain Road man who was arrested in a brutal knife attack on his wife last week is slated to appear in court Tuesday, where he is expected to face more serious after the woman died Sunday.

Emanuel Dominguez-VillaGomez is schedule to appear in Superior Court in New Haven after being arraigned Friday in a Meriden court room where he was charged with first-degree assault, risk of injury, reckless endangerment and unlawful restraint. His wife, Monica Dominguez, who was critically wounded in the attack at the couple’s 780 Mountain Road home, died Sunday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury.

The stabbing occured Wednesday evening. Dominguez-VillaGomez had several cuts, which he told police his wife inflicted. But according to police, his wounds were not consistent with someone warding off a knife attack.

Dominguez-VillaGomez was taken to a Waterbury hospital for treatment of his wounds. He was arrested Friday after being released and is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail

The couple was in the midst of a divorce proceeding that Monica Dominguez initiated in July, according to court records

The couple had only lived in Cheshire since March. Prior to that, they had lived in Wallingford.
