DANBURY — Dozens of veterans with disabilities will compete in a fishing tournament on Candlewood Lake on Tuesday.

The veterans, who have visual impairments, permanent physical impairments and PTSD, will be paired with an experienced angler and boat captain from the fishing organization Connecticut Bass Nation, according to a press release.

Boats will launch at 47 Hayestown Road at 8 a.m., with the fish weigh-in held from 2 to 3 p.m., and lunch and prizes at 3 p.m.

The event is part of the Gaylord Sports Association’s Veteran Event Series and is organized in partnership with Connecticut BASS Nation and the Major Steven Roy Andrews Fishing Outreach Program, a nonprofit that helps veterans and at-risk children.

The program aims to “support veterans in attaining a healthy lifestyle, better quality of life, and new peer relationships through adaptive sports,” the press release said.
