For the first time since its creation in 1959, a tie has been declared in the Representative Town Meeting District IV between Werner Domittner and Joe Hardison, who received 363 votes apiece.

Three recounts were completed within the registrar of voters office following Election Day with the same outcome. As a result, the district will vote at an upcoming caucus to decide between the two men.

Brian Rayhill, who was appointed the District IV chairman at the Tuesday, Nov. 12, annual meeting, will be responsible for sending the notice for the Nov. 25 caucus, where a vote will be cast to fill the vacant seat.

The caucus will take place prior to the Nov. 25 RTM meeting. District IV was the only RTM district race that was contested; 11 people ran for 10 seats.

Hardison was appointed to the RTM in March 2011, Domittner last November.

For the first RTM meeting of the year, only 15 District IV members will be present. The last seat will remain vacant until District IV votes for the 16th member.
