First Selectman Jayme Stevenson, who was scheduled to speak at Saturday's Republican Club meeting, announced Thursday that she is postponing her appearance.

Below is the letter she sent to the club:

"After careful consideration, I have decided to postpone my address to the Darien Republican Club on Saturday, March 24 pending the Republican Club's satisfactory resolution of their standing with the Connecticut State Elections Enforcement Commission."

Stevenson said she made her decision after reading about the club's violation and speaking with members and other Republicans in town.

"I obtained a copy of the decision by the State Elections and Enforcement Commission and the decision was quite clear that the club needed to file as a PAC," she said. "As soon as they provide me with information that states they don't need to file I will be happy to appear before them."

As first selectman and a leader within the Republican Party, Stevenson said she was concerned about associating with a club that is operating outside the law.

"I plan on calling [acting president] Joi [Gallo] this afternoon and speaking with her but until they can prove they don't need to file, my decision stands."

Gallo did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
