STAMFORD — Three Stamford Public Schools performing ensembles took first place prizes at the Music in the Parks competition held recently at Six Flags New England.

The Turn of River Jazz Band, Turn of River Chamber Singers and the Academy of Information Technology and Engineering Concert Choir competed at the theme park in Agawam, Mass. against other musical groups from Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. Each group received a limited amount of time to set up, perform two to three pieces and then exit the stage.

According to the Music in the Parks organization, each group was evaluated on performance and then received performance feedback and tips for improvement from experienced instrument and vocal teachers. Each winning group also received a trophy.
