Darien forecast: Andrea comes calling with heavy rain, possible flooding
This will be a dark and stormy day ... and night.
The "remnants" of Tropical Storm Andrea will buffet southwestern Connecticut with heavy rains today and tomorrow, as the storm that triggered flooding, gusty winds and tornadoes in the nation's Southeast moves up the Atlantic Coast.
The storm, however, is not expected to morph into a hurricane, according to the National Weather Service.
As of early today, the NWS has issued the following warnings for this area:
- Hazardous Weather Outlook indicating that, through tomorrow, there could be total rainfall of 2 to 4 inches.
- Coastal Flood Advisory, through 1 a.m. tomorrow.
- Flash Flood Watch, in effect through 2 p.m. tomorrow.
Light rain has been falling fairly steadily across the region since last night, and is expected to gather intensity through the day, becoming heavy at times. The temperature will rise to a daytime high in the low-60s, with an east wind 10 to 14 mph.
Rain continues tonight, with a greater threat of downpours as the temperature dips to a low in the mid-50s. There will be a northeast wind 15 to 17 mph.
The rain is expected to keep falling early tomorrow as Andrea moves from the region, with gradual clearing in the afternoon. Skies, however, will remain cloudy as the temperature rises to a high in the mid-70s with a north wind 8 to 15 mph, becoming southwest in the afternoon.
Tomorrow night, there remains 20 percent of showers, the NWS says, as the temperature registers a low of about 60 degrees.
Sunday is expected to be partly sunny, with a high temperature in the mid-70s. By Sunday night, there is 20 percent chance of showers as skies turn cloudy and the temperature dips to about 60 degrees.
On Monday, showers and thunderstorms are likely under cloudy skies and temperatures rise to a high in the mid-70s. Chance of daytime precipitation is 60 percent. Nighttime will see a 50 percent chance of showers, as the temperature dips to about 60s degrees.
There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday, with cloudy skies and temperatures in the low-70s. Night skies will be cloudy, with a low temperature of about 60 degrees.
The outlook for Wednesday, according to the weather service, is sunny and temperatures in the 70s.
