Want to have a great night out with your dog? On Thursday, June 26, Adopt-A-Dog will have its first Barks & Blooms event at McArdle's Florist and Garden Center at 48 Arch St. in Greenwich from 6 to 9 p.m. The donation for two-legged creatures is $100. Dogs attend for free.

What can you expect at this beautiful location surrounded by flowers, bushes and trees? An assortment of local merchants have donated their services to make the evening special for you and your dog.

There will be a fine spirit tasting by Horseneck Wines & Liquor of Greenwich. Sample great scotch and bourbon or sip some fine wine. Catering is by Fairway Market.

If you've always wanted a family portrait with your dog, here's your opportunity. Portraits by Geoffrey Tischman will capture the love you have for your pooch. Have a few photos taken of your dog alone -- all suitable for framing to display in your home.

Expect photo bomb fun. Adopt-A-Dog will have life size photos of some of the dogs looking for a new home that may suddenly appear during a group shot. This year alone the organization has placed 50 to 60 dogs in a forever home.

Not sure that you have the time to care for a dog? Consider fostering one. Fostering lets you find out if a dog fits into your lifestyle and family situation. Adopt-A-Dog has a great track record of failed fosters as many foster parents decide to adopt the dog placed with them. There's nothing like coming home to a dog who can barely contain his excitement when you walk in the door.

The evening's silent auction will feature products from the nursery. Here's your chance to spruce up your garden for summer with plants, bushes, trees and flowers at an incredible savings.

All proceeds from the evening will support the work of Adopt-A-Dog. For 33 years this Greenwich-based organization has been rescuing and caring for dogs. The money raised will help buy food and ensure good vet care at the shelter in Armonk, N.Y.

I have two dogs that I found at Adopt-A-Dog. They are the love of my life. Allyson Halm, the president of Adopt-A-Dog, does a fabulous job finding homes for dogs that she rescues from surrounding shelters. Since 1981, she has worked tirelessly to get better lives for the dogs in her care.

So go online to www.adoptadog.org and get tickets for this great event. Or just show up with your dog at the door of McArdle's Florist and Garden Center on Thursday, June 26, and enjoy a fabulous evening benefitting a great cause.
