POLICE BLOTTER: Department of Public Works removes spray paint from street

BIG RAPIDS — Big Rapids Department of Public Safety officers responded to the following calls on Thursday. All calls might not be reported.

• Officers responded to a report of an open door in the 800 block of Clark Street. A building search was conducted, and the keyholder didn't answer. Officers left a message and the building was secured upon exit.

• A traffic stop led to a 39-year-old man being cited for driving without insurance. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

• Officers responded to a report of someone driving off after getting gas without paying in the 700 block of South State Street. The case is under investigation.

• Malicious destruction of property was reported in the 400 block of North Third Avenue which was possibly related to disorderly juveniles from a case in a previous week. Spray paint was found on a deck, the sidewalk and street. The Department of Public Works was contacted to remove a phallic mark on the street.

• A bicycle was found in the woods near the 500 block of North Warren Avenue. Once the bicycle was out of the woods, the owner came from a different location, where they were fishing. The bicycle was returned.

• A traffic stop in the 1100 block of South State led to a man being issued an appearance ticket for driving without insurance.

• Officers responded to a suspicious activity/probation violation complaint in the 200 block of Pemberton Avenue. A third party called advising a man was at the residence with the protected party, in violation of his probation order. The man was not found at the residence, but a witness on scene said he saw him at the residence a couple of times in the past few weeks. A report was sent to the Mecosta County probation office.

• Officers responded to a noise/loud party complaint in the 400 block of South Stewart Avenue. A noise warning was issued to the tenant.
