Shops spring up along sidewalks
More than 70 retailers and merchants are lining the sidewalks of Darien this weekend as the Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Sidewalk Sales and Family Fun Days.
This year's installment of the town tradition will be bigger than in previous years, according to Chamber Director Carol Wilder-Tamme.
"Usually it's just Friday and Saturday, but because things were still very difficult, with retail, I asked the selectmen if they would give me permission for an additional day for retail to sell on the sidewalk, which is against town code," Wilder-Tamme said. "This is the first time we've had a third day."
There will be several different options for entertainment. Slap-shot hockey will be set up the Darien Sport Shop. Additionally, a giant inflatable slide will be placed in front of Beadz Boutique and Chunky Pam's on Friday. On Saturday, there will be inflatable toys in Noroton Heights. There will also be an inflatable and a race car from Lime Rock on Day Street on Saturday, according to Wilder-Tamme. There will also be face painting, a fire truck and a live band throughout the course of the three-day event.
