Girls swimming and diving top performances from week 2 of the 2022 season

TOP PERFORMERS

Hannah Chuckas, Westhill/Stamford: Chuckas, the defending Class LL and State Open diving champion, won the diving competition as the Westhill/Stamford co-op upset Wilton 92-91 on Wednesday, Chuckas scored 244.35 and won by more than 30 points.

Olivia Cieciwa, Westhill/Stamford: Cieciwa was a big part of Westhill/Stamford’s win over Wilton, as she took first place in the 100 butterfly (1:04.04) and 100 backstroke (1:02.42), and was part of the winning 200 medley (2:03.83) and 400 freestyle (3:58.68) relays.

Juliette Eaton, Masuk: The senior co-captain won four events to help the Panthers defeat Joel Barlow 94-83 on Sept. 23. She won the 200 individual medley (2:37.71) and 100 butterfly (1:10.89) and was part of the first-place 200 medley (2:05.34) and 200 freestyle (1:53.54) relays.

Annie Edwards, Westhill/Stamford: Edwards, a junior, was another key swimmer for the Westhill/Stamford co-op against Wilton. She racked up four wins during Westhill/Stamford’s 92-91 win over Wilton on Wednesday. She was first in the 50 freestyle (26.43) and 100 freestyle (57.45) and was part of the winning 200 medley (2:03.83) and 400 freestyle (1:52.21) relays.

Ella Guessen, Ludlowe: Guessen won the 50 freestyle (25.85) and 100 breaststroke (1:12.24) in the Falcons’ loss to Wilton.

Eva Helmke, Masuk: Helmke won the 50 freestyle (26.43) and the 100 backstroke (1:09.37), and was part of the winning 200 medley (2:05.34) and 200 freestyle (1:53.54) relays during Masuk’s 94-83 win over Barlow.

Bridget Kelly, Ridgefield: The sophomore has had a successful start to the season, finishing first in eight relay events and also winning three individual events as the Tigers kicked off the season with a 4-0 record.

Kathleen Murray, Ludlowe: Murray won the 50 freestyle (27.85) and 100 freestyle (59.36) in the Falcons’ win over Warde.

Annam Olasewere, Staples: The sophomore won the 200-meter freestyle in the Wreckers’ meet against Ridgefield, posting the second fastest time in Staples’ history at 2:07.07. She also won the 400-meter freestyle (4:35.79), and was a double-winner against Darien, taking first in the 100-meter backstroke (1:10.81) and the 200-meter freestyle (2:08.63).

Mikayla Rapuano, North Haven: The senior co-captain posted a pair of victories against Lyman Hall on Sept. 15, finishing first in the 100 butterfly (1:00.76) and 100 backstroke (1:03.24). She also won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.57) against Branford on Sept. 23.

Alice Scalmani, North Haven: The senior co-captain won twice in a meet against Lyman Hall on Sept. 15, taking first in the 200 individual medley (2:20.03), and the 100 breaststroke (1:13.48).

Morgan Thompson, Bristol Eastern: The sophomore won the 200 individual medley (2:36.70) and 100 freestyle (1:04.55) to help lead the Lancers past Manchester 77-76. She was also on the second-place 400 medley relay team (2:26.62). 

MEETS TO WATCH

Lauralton Hall at Amity, Monday, 6:45: Two of the SCC’s top three from 2021 meet in a head-to-head battle. The Spartans are the defending SCC champions and Lauralton Hall finished third last fall.

Greenwich and Ridgefield at Cheshire, Monday, 7: Are you ready for some swimming? It’s Monday Swimming as the three conference and state contenders clash in a battle royale at the Cheshire Community Pool.

Wilton at Darien, Wednesday, 3: Two FCIAC powers meet at the Darien YMCA. Many of these competitors will be in the running for conference medals later this fall.

Westhill/Stamford at Greenwich, Thursday, 5:30: Westhill/Stamford is coming of a huge one-point win over Wilton and will now take on the defending league champion Cardinals.

Pomperaug at Newtown, Friday, 4: The Panthers and Nighthawks have finished in the SWC’s top three for most of the past decade.
