SPB’s Audibles: Your Guide To Week 3's CT HS Football Games

Sean Patrick Bowley

Welcome to another week of AUDIBLES! Your guide to this weekend's high school football games.

Welcome to Week 3, which is the first big one involving the league crossover games under the umbrella of the Connecticut High School Football Alliance.

The Alliance, now in its fourth year, seeks create equitable scheduling for the state's football teams using cooperation among some of the state's most prominent leagues -- the SCC, SWC, FCIAC, ECC and CCC. (The Pequot, CTC and NVL are not involved).

While it has created some great matchups -- Newtown vs. Darien, Xavier vs. Ridgefield, New Canaan vs. Hand and Greenwich vs. Shelton to name a few this week -- it has also come at the expense of actual traditional league matchups as more and more teams get involved over multiple weeks.

It remains a work in progress and is not without criticism, making it a good target for a few jabs herein.

Anyway, here's what's what in Week 3. There are a few known COVID postponements, which have been (mostly) removed here. While those have been tough to pin down, just keep in mind that all games and times are subject to change as we continue to navigate this pandemic in the high school football world.

Here we go:

EAST HARTFORD (1-1) at GLASTONBURY (0-2), 6:30 p.m.

THE SKINNY — After two weeks, Hornets finally get off Monday Night Football.

SIMSBURY (1-1) at MALONEY (1-1), 6:30 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Yet another big game for both. This whole new CCC scheduling thing is a whole lot of fun, isn’t it?

NEW BRITAIN (0-2) at SOUTHINGTON (2-0), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Strap in, ‘Canes. It’s gonna be one of those years.

BERLIN (1-1) at MANCHESTER (0-2), 6 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Parker’s been unstoppable for Manchester, but Hawks need to play defense.

PLATT (1-1) at ENFIELD (0-2), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Platt’s offensive line showed us something dominating Middletown last week.

THE SKINNY — If you’re serious, Rams, this would be a game to win.

BLOOMFIELD (2-0) at E.O. SMITH (1-1), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Warhawks already seem in midseason form — for 2019.

HARTFORD PUBLIC (2-0) a ROCKY HILL (1-0), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Know where HP’s Christian Garcia is and don’t go that way.

THE SKINNY — After losing for so long, the Bears look ready for some vengeance.

THE SKINNY — Winless showdown of teams convinced they should already be in W column.

THE SKINNY — Reports of Rockville’s demise might not be exaggerated…

NOTRE DAME-WH (1-1) at BRANFORD (1-1), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Let’s blow your mind: These two are now in same CIAC playoff class (M).

BUNNELL (1-1) at BARLOW (2-0), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — A bone for you SWC purists in a sea of Alliance games.

THE SKINNY — Central has a few cracks at ending losing streak, beginning here.

TOLLAND (1-0) at WINDHAM (0-2), 6 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Seems like this would make a good, yearly rivalry.

THE SKINNY — Neither team cares who’s on other side, just getting that W.

LEWIS MILLS (1-1) at KILLINGLY (2-0), 6:30 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Let’s party like it’s (SWC) 1999.

GREENWICH (2-0) at SHELTON (2-0), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — If nothing else, this will say a lot about both teams.

XAVIER (2-0) at RIDGEFIELD (0-1), 7 p.m.

THE SKINNY — Too bad Tiger Hollow isn’t ready, this might be the best game of the night.
