The gyms have re-opened, athletes have returned to the fields and the lights on Friday night are back on.

Sports are fully back in Connecticut and GameTimeCT has you covered as the go-to source for all thing high school sports throughout the state.

We are fully committed to covering the best stories, providing the best analysis and highlighting the student-athletes who are making their mark in all corners of the state.

That’s why, this season, we are introducing the GameTimeCT Athlete of the Week.

Each week during the high school sports season, GameTimeCT will feature student-athletes from around Connecticut and honoring them for their achievements. Why? Because they deserve the recognition.

Here’s how it will work:

  • The GameTimeCT staff will select five finalists playing boy’s sports and five playing girl’s sports each week.
  • From there, we will leave the decision for who should be named GameTimeCT Athlete of the Week up to the fans through a vote. Two winners – one playing boys sports and one playing girls sports – will be named based on the student-athlete receiving the most votes.
  • Voting will open online Tuesday morning and continue through Thursday at 11:59 p.m. The votes will then be tallied and a winner will be named online Friday around noon.
  • The voting will take place on our website at: ctinsider.com/gametimect once the project goes live.
  • Simply click the athlete you are voting for, enter a valid email address and submit your vote. Only one vote per email address each week will be allowed. You can view the rules here.

Fans are welcome to submit their own nominee for GameTimeCT Athlete of the Week at https://bit.ly/3qMp54x. The GameTimeCT staff will receive the submission along with the information provided and ultimately choose the 10 total finalists.

Why are we doing this? GameTimeCT has always been about highlighting what is going on in the gyms, tracks, pools and on the fields across Connecticut. Whether it be the magical moments, the incredible plays, the powerful stories or just keeping you updated on what’s going on at your alma mater – that’s why we’re here.

The GameTimeCT Athlete of the Week is just one more way of highlighting those student-athletes, whether they’re in New Haven, up Interstate 91 in Hartford, along I-95 in Fairfield County, the Litchfield Hills, the Naugatuck River Valley, the Quiet Corner or living down by the New London County shore. No matter where you are in the state, these student-athletes’ accomplishments matter to us.

If you aren’t already, we encourage you to follow us on Twitter and Instagram at @gametimect for coverage, game highlights and, of course, the weekly announcement of who has been named GameTimeCT Athlete of the week.
