Charles Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol” is getting new life in the musical “Scrooge” at Curtain Call’s Kweskin Theatre in Stamford.

A cast of 44 is featured in the 1992 Leslie Bricusse musical that augments Dickens’ themes with haunting melodies and lively dance numbers, while staying true to the novel’s original tale of redemption.

“This is a timeless story that deserves to be told and retold, so I’m thrilled to have it on our schedule this season,” Lou Ursone, Curtain Call executive director and producer for the show, said in a press statement.

As for the large “Scrooge” cast, Ursone said, “We had so many talented young performers audition for this production that we created two alternating teams of kids each to work with the 22 adults.”

Stamford’s Kari Ann Sweeney Efferen is directing. Eric K. Johnston is music director, Julia Maggiola is choreographer, Peter Barbieri Jr. is set designer, Adam Lobelson is lighting designer and Merial Cornell and Mary Joan Wright are costume designers.
