Jill Gilardi has joined the WFSB evening team as the weekend meteorologist after nine years of working in Alabama.

Gilardi made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter and on Facebook, writing, "For the last 18 years of my career, it’s always been 2 planes ✈️ to get to my family…but now it’s just a 2 hour drive!" She continued, "I am so thankful for my past endeavors and excited for my future with WFSB. I can’t wait to take you all along on my new adventure!”

WFSB meteorologist Mike Slifer shared her tweet and said, "Welcome Jill to Channel 3! You can catch Jill on our weekend evening newscasts doing the weather as well as doing stories throughout the week. It’s great to have another native New Englander on the team!”

Gilardi worked at WBRC in Birmingham since 2013, according to the company's website. She has served audiences in St. Joseph and Springfield, Mo., before moving to WOWT in Omaha, Neb., in 2011.

She is a Massachusetts native and studied weather at Lyndon State College in Vermont where she earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist Seal from the American Meteorological Society, according to WBRC. Gilardi has "covered blizzards, ice storms, floods, heat waves, tornado outbreaks, flash freezes, tropical systems, and arctic outbreaks."
