Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole in “Elf: The Musical,” onstage at Curtain Call’s Kweskin Theatre in Stamford.

This family show, based on the popular fantasy/comedy movie, “Elf,” follows Buddy as he is raised as an elf. He remains unaware that he’s actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making skills cause him to face the truth.

With Santa’s permission, Buddy heads to New York City to find his birth father and learn his true identity. Though it turns out his dad is on the “Naughty List,” and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, he’s determined to win them over. He meets other skeptics, as well, and tries to help everyone remember the true meaning of Christmas.

According to Curtain Call’s executive director, Lou Ursone, “Elf: The Musical” is a feel-good show with a catchy score and a story people got to know and love from the 2003 movie. It will be onstage Friday, Nov. 16, through Saturday, Dec. 15.

Curtain Call veteran Lauren Nicole Sherwood, the show’s director, said in a news release, “Elf is one of the most cleverly adapted musicals from screen to stage — they took all the best parts of the movie and gave it a big, classic Broadway makeover. It is filled will showstopping numbers and silly elf antics, but underneath it all it has a giant heart!”

The musical features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (Disney’s “Aladdin” on Broadway), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (“Hairspray”) and Bob Martin (“The Drowsy Chaperone”).

Curtain Call, Inc. is in its 28th season. Kweskin Theatre is at The Sterling Farms Theatre Complex.
