NEW HAVEN >> “Matilda” brought a wave of young girls and their parents to College Street last spring. This coming week brings a new opportunity to introduce a great American musical to a new generation: “Annie” is back Tuesday through April 3.

The red-headed spitfire will command the Shubert Theatre stage for eight performances, Tuesday through Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 7:30, Saturday at 2 and 7:30 and Sunday at 1 and 6:30.

The musical brought Tony Awards in 1977 to Thomas Meehan, who did the book; Charles Strouse for the music and Martin Charnin for the lyrics. Charnin directs this new production of the original show.

Tickets ($16 to $101) are available at shubert.com, by calling 203-562-5666 or visit the Shubert Box Office at 247 College St.

The 25-member company includes Heidi Gray in the title role of Annie, according to a Shubert release, Gilgamesh Taggett as Oliver Warbucks and Lynn Andrews as Miss Hannigan.
