COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY

Alex Ostberg (DHS Class of ’15) placed 16th at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship recently.

Ostberg covered the 10k course in 29:41 to help Stanford to a fourth place finish.

His performance earned him All-American honors.

It was the first competitive 10k of college for the redshirt sophomore who finished as Stanford’s No. 2 runner.

“Alex ran a masterful race,” said Darien High coach Tyson Kaczmarek. “The pace was very fast early on. Alex had to hang on the last third of the race.”

Ostberg was an All-American in cross country during his junior and senior year of high school at DHS.

He also holds the State Open and Class L cross country championship meet records. He has the course record on the state course at Wickham Park in Manchester.

“Alex is such a hard worker,” said his former coach. “He does everything he can to help the team be the best it can be. This is an incredible achievement for him. He is ready to become an elite college runner.”
