The Darien Fire Department is helping pump out the Darien Library basement Sunday afternoon. There is so much water in it “you could swim in there,” one firefighter told The Darien Times.

The library will reopen by 2 but the lower level will not be open, according to Alan Gray of the library. Librarians were outside the library Sunday afternoon accepting book returns and helping patrons before the building reopened.

The library’s pump  malfunctioned, which is was led to the flooding, according to Matt Lucero of the Darien Fire Department. The flooding is on the same level as many of the computers — and the teen section of the library.

The air condition is also not on in the library, so it is getting hot inside. It might not be turned back on today, Gray said.
