Darien Board of Education member, Christa McNamara, will to seek the Republican nomination for the Board of Selectman race this coming November. “I am excited by the opportunity to join Jayme and Kip’s team in the leadership of town government, along with the fellow Board of Selectman (BOS) members. My background serving on both the Darien Board of Education and the Representative Town Meeting (RTM) will, I believe, serve to further strengthen the dialogue across these government bodies for the benefit of all residents of Darien.”
McNamara is seeking to fill Susan Marks’ position, who has announced that she will not be seeking reelection following her three terms in that office.
“Susan has given so much to this community during her time on the BOS. When she decided not to return to the Board in November, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for me to make the move.”
In a statement issued by Marks, she said, “This year I have decided to step down from the Board of Selectman. I once again have the honor and privilege to help recruit another outstanding Republican to serve with Jayme and Kip. I am so pleased to announce my endorsement of Christa McNamara, current Board of Education member. I respect the RTC has a process to go through and will be interviewing other candidates for my seat, but I believe Christa has the right experience, outreach and skills to round out the 2019 Republican ticket for the Board of Selectman. I am very excited and proud to support a ticket of Jayme Stevenson, Kip Koons and Christa McNamara.”
McNamara, a resident of Darien for 17 years, has served on the Board of Education since 2013 and will continue to serve in this role until the end of her term. “I think it is important to be present to welcome our new superintendent, Dr. Alan Addley, into the Darien community when he joins us on July 1st. I want to ensure his transition into the school system is as smooth as possible, and I know he will be in great hands with my fellow Board members and the school Administration when I depart in November.”
