The top-ranked Darien Blue Wave girls lacrosse team overcame a strong challenge from No. 3 Wilton and scored a 10-8 victory on Friday at Lilly Field in Wilton.
The Wave led 6-4 at halftime and expanded the advantage to 8-4 early in the second half. Wilton closed the gap to 8-6 with 7:14 remaining, but two straight goals from Sarah Jaques made it 10-6 and put the game out of reach with three minutes remaining.
The win completed an undefeated FCIAC season for Darien, which is 10-0 in the league and 13-2 overall. The Blue Wave will play its last regular season game on Monday, when they play at Longmeadow (Mass) at 5 p.m.
Wilton is now 10-5 overall and 6-3 in the FCIAC.
The Wave was led by five points from Ashley Humphrey, who scored once and had four assists. Jaques finished with four goals, while Shea van den Broek had two goals and one assist.
Katie Elders and Maddie Joyce each had a goal and an assist, and Kit Arrix scored once.
Goalie Shea Dolce collected eight saves to help Darien nail down the win.
