Darien’s annual Good Friday cross walk is Friday; a list of Darien’s Easter church services

As Holy Week begins, Darien’s churches and community organizations have several services events planned.

Darien’s Easter services include the traditional Good Friday cross walk from First Congregational Church to St. Luke’s, ending with a three-hour community service. There is also an annual Easter Egg hunt on Good Friday at 10 a.m. at the Darien Community Association. Let us know your Easter-related events at editor@Darientimes.com.

Christ Community Church, 988 Post Road, Darien.

Join us this Easter season as we consider the unimaginable sacrifice of Christ and celebrate the epic hope offered to us in His miraculous Resurrection. Good Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. and Easter Sunday, April 21 at 10:30 a.m.

Congregational Church of Darien, 14 Brookside Road

Good Friday: Good Friday Cross Walk, uniting our Christian communities.It begins at First Congregational Church at 10:30 a.m. and walks across town to St. Luke’s, making prayer stops throughout the community. Attendees may walk part or all of the way. Baby strollers and dogs welcome.

Easter Sunday: Sunrise service at 7 a.m., Mather Cemetery, Stephen Mather Road, service at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., complete with balloons and “The Hallelujah Chorus.” Please join us for coffee, fruit, and sweets.

The United Church of Rowayton: 210 Rowayton Ave.,

Good Friday — April 19, 12 Noon — Reflections of the Seven Last Words of Jesus. The Rowayton United Methodist Church will be joining us for this special service of dramatic readings.

Easter Sunday: Sunday, April 21 — 6 a.m. Sunrise service at Bayley Beach The United Church of Rowayton and The Reverend John Livingston and Rowayton Methodist Church and Pastor Michael Cobb will hold a community service at Bayley Beach – Pastor Michael Cobb will be preaching; Festival services at 9:15am and 11:15am. The Reverend John Livingston will deliver the message “Rejoice! Give Thanks! And Sing!” Scripture Reading: John 20:1-18.

During the 9:15 and 11:15 a.m. services, pre-k through third grade are invited to participate in a craft project in the Meeting House. Between the two services, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for pre-k through third grade at 10:15 a.m. on the playground.

 

St. Luke’s, 1864 Post Road

Good Friday, April 19 — 6 a.m. — Chapel and Church open for prayer; 7 a.m. — Way of the Cross in the Church; 10 to 11 a.m. — Stations of the Cross for Children in the Anderson Youth & Community Center;

10:45 a.m. — Community Procession of the Cross Beginning at First Congregational Church, 14 Brookside Road, Darien and ending at Saint Luke’s for the Ecumenical Service; 12 to 3 p.m. — Community Ecumenical Service. Worshippers may come and go as they wish during the three hours.

The Great Vigil of Easter, April 20 — 3:30 p.m. Easter Service for Children followed by an Easter Egg Hunt. Families are encouraged to bring Easter baskets for their children; 8 p.m. — The 2019 Great Easter Vigil (beginning on the front lawn); The vigil begins with the New Fire and leads into the supreme celebration of the resurrection complete with choirs, bells (bring one). An Easter Feast will follow — festive reception celebrating our Easter Joy. Attendees are encouraged to bring a finger food (wweet or savory.)

Easter Day, April 21 — 7:45 a.m. Holy Eucharist and Hymns in the Church (organ, brass, timpani and hymns); 9:15 am Festival Holy Eucharist, Full Choir and Brass in the Church; 9:15 am Family Holy Eucharist with Organ and Hymns in the Chapel; 9:15 am — Come As You Are Eucharist in the Anderson Youth & Community Center; 11:15 a.m. — Festival Holy Eucharist, Full Choir and Brass in the Church. Childcare available 7:30 to 12:30 pm.

Easter Sunday — breakfast at 8 a.m. and and worship at 9 a.m. Rev. Canon George Kovoor, Priest-in-Charge will be preaching and celebrating eucharist.

Darien United Methodist Church: 345 Middlesex Road

Easter Sunday Worship is April 21, 10 a.m., with the Rev. Thomas G. Kim, preaching.

Noroton Presbyterian Church: 2011 Post Road

Easter Sunday —  Six a.m. sunrise worship service at Weed Beach and worship services in the NPC sanctuary at 8, 9:30, and 11 a.m. Watch a live streaming the 9:30 a.m. worship service at.norotonchurch.org.
