The Darien girls lacrosse team opened the new season with a rout, rolling to a 19-3 victory over the Fairfield-Warde Mustangs Tuesday at DHS.
Ten Darien players had goals and 12 had points as the Blue Wave spread the offense around.
Juniors Ashley Humphrey and Sarah Jaques led the way with six points apiece. Humphrey scored a game-high four goals and had two assists, while Jaques tallied three goals and three assists.
Senior Mason Maloney had a hat trick and one assist, senior co-captain Katie Elders added two goals and two assists, and freshman Molly McGuckin scored twice.
Senior co-captains Shea van den Broek and Nicole Humphrey, and juniors Maddie Joyce and Kit Arrix each had a goal and an assist. Freshman Ceci Stein had one goal, and juniors Molly Hellman and Sky Ekern had one assist apiece.
Darien used two goalies, with freshman Shea Dolce making four saves against five shots, and junior Kennison Harmon making three saves against five shots.
The Blue Wave will go out of conference for their next game, as they host the Garden City Trojans at 10 a.m., Saturday.
Darien won last year’s meeting with the Trojans, 15-13, at Garden City, and Garden City won two years ago, 17-11, at DHS.
