The postseason for ice hockey is in full swing and in this week’s Wave by the numbers, we’ll take a look at Darien’s girls and boys teams.
The Blue Wave swimming and diving team also had a solid performance in the FCIAC tournament last week.
Record of the Darien girls ice hockey team over the past 15 games. The Wave was 3-3 back on Jan. 5 and has improved to 16-4-1. Darien had an unbeaten streak of 13 games (12-0-1) before losing in the FCIAC semifinals, but bounced back with a win iin the state quarterfinals.
Score of Darien’s victory over the Greenwich Cardinals in the CHSGHA quarterfinals on Saturday at the Darien Ice House. Caitlin Chan and Kit Arrix scored for the Wave, which avenged its loss to Greenwich in the FCIAC semis.
Consecutive state titles for the Darien girls ice hockey team. The Wave defeated East Catholic 2-1 in the 2016 final, Hamden 4-3 in OT in 2017, and Suffield 5-2 last year. Darien was one win away from a fourth straight trip to the state final when it faced West Haven/SHA in the semis yesterday, Wednesday, in Shelton. Saves for Darien junior goalie Hallie Kreppein in the state quarterfinal win over Greenwich. Kreppein and the Wave defense kept the Cards off the scoreboard for the first 42 minutes of the game.

Time of the game when Greenwich’s Charlie Graves scored in double overtime to give the Cardinals a 2-1 victory over Darien in the FCIAC semifinals last Wednesday at the Darien Ice House. Jack Eschricht had scored the game’s first goal for Greenwich 1:41 into the first period, with Darien’s Blake Swiggett tying the game at 5:47 of the second period.

Saves for Greenwich freshman goalie Charlie Zolin. Zolin was beaten just once, when Swiggett scored off a rebound of a shot by CJ Hathaway.
Connor Martin’s time in the 100-yard butterfly at the FCIAC swim finals last Thursday in Greenwich. Martin finished second in the race, trailing only Westhill/Stamford’s Benjamin Feldman (49.51).
